Thanks Bebu. A few days after the attacks, I heard the cutest thing. A little girl said that New York looks like it's missing its 2 front teeth, out of the mouth of babes.- V Sky

What's the most ridiculous thing you were ever counselled on?
by micheal inone of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.
they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.
i was once counselled for joking around too much.

Now I remember one that happened to me. I was taking my little brother to the meetings with me and when he was 4 he fell asleep during book study and he snored. Well the conductor tells me after that he snores too loud and I need to keep him awake, pinch him if I have too. I was a teenager so I didn't tell him to go f**k himself like I would now! - V Sky

This is hard. Okay, I had broken up with someone I really loved and the wound was still fresh. I was feeling sorry for myself and slept late on my morning off. My mom called, I picked up the phone and I was like 'This better be good, you just woke me up'. She said, 'Turn on the TV, something happened in NY'. I was instantly awake. To put this in perspective, I grew up in Queens, I've been to the top of the Twin Towers twice. I love Florida, but I'm a New Yorker so when I turned on the TV and saw that black hole in the North Tower I can't tell you how scared I was. I've got family and friends in the city, I knew that 50,000 people worked in the towers, that each floor was an acre, that the WTC had it's own zip code. When I saw those buildings, I knew I was home - in good ol' New York. So I'm watching the Today show's live coverage and then the second plane hit and I lost it. All I could do is sit there and cry as people jumped and I thought how desperate do you have to be if jumping is the better option? When the first building collapsed I didn't know what was happening, I saw the smoke and I thought if those bastards sent another plane...Katie and Matt were at a loss for words so I turned to Peter Jennings. He said the South Tower had collapsed and I refused to believe it even though my eyes could see that it was gone. I said, 'no that's impossible' then the North Tower went and I start screaming. All those poor people did was go to work and they got murdered and I watched it happen. All day I watched the news. I dragged myself to the meeting that night and the 'friends' were so excited. This is it, they said, Armageddon's coming! I was so pissed off. One bro came up to me gushing, about the end of this system and I told him off. I said 'Gee, thousands of people were murdered today and you wanna celebrate?' He looked embarassed and walked away. I was shaking with anger. All they could talk about during the service meeting was how to turn this tragedy into an opportunity to preach. Three weeks later, I was on a plane to my city as an American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team volunteer. I was assigned to Ground Zero for a month and no, tv didn't do the destruction justice. Miracles happened on 9/11. Firefighters evacuated the buildings and saved thousands, New Yorkers and the nation pulled together like never before and love triumphed over evil. I will always be inspired by the courage of people and it gives me hope. - V Sky

This didn't happen to me, it happened to my service partner, a young pretty sister. An MS and an elder wanna be told her that her lipstick was too red for the ministry, it looked too brazen. I couldn't believe it. I said, 'You're kidding right?' He was dead serious. Said it distracts from the message. I said, 'Why are you looking at her lips in the first place?' He glared at me, then she tells him 'Look, you're not my head or my dad, you can't tell me what shade of lipstick to wear.' He just wouldn't let it drop. Then he said we would never find brothers to marry with our bad attitude. Aw, that's just too bad, I could've ended up with a gem like him! - V Sky

i think that 2 x jw getting together must make a good match
by nelly1 in.
because they both have probrably been thru similar experiences..and can share whatever spirituality is left..i know id prolly prefer an xjw guy to someone in the world :).
any thoughts?

I agree. There is a bond between people who've been to hell and back. We survived the same insanity, so yeah, I'd like to marry an x-jw but ultimately, I'll end up marrying whoever I love regardless of his religious background. - V Sky

New here, got a question
by kj ini just wanted to let you know how much i have enjoyed reading your posts.
i am not and have never been a jw, but my husband and i both have a lot of family who are.
my mother was sucked into it in 1999. i have a question, is it true that jws are forbidden to set foot in any church other than the kingdom hall?

Victorian sky
kj, welcome to the board! About going into a church, the answer is sort of yes - JWs can't go in. In the mid 1990s, when my cousin got married my elder uncle told me that to go into the church for the ceremony would be a form of interfaith so we didn't attend the ceremony just the reception. Same thing when my grandfather died, we can't go in for the service only the cemetary part of the service. As I started having doubts about such a 'loving' organization, I did attend one of my cousin's weddings for the church service and it was wonderful. As far as going to a church for a garage sale, no - the way I understood it, as a JW I wasn't allowed to go because the money would be supporting the world empire of false religion, as awful as that sounds. Now I think the GB are just afraid we'd find out that they are just like any other religion and that JWs aren't the only decent people on the planet. Sorry about your mom being in, so is mine, we'll get 'em out. welcome again - V Sky

What should replace twin towers?...
by Brummie in...a memorial to the victims or thriving business offices?.
would building offices show a disrespect for the victims or would it be a good idea in the sense that it shows the usa are picking up where they left off and not being deterred by the terrorists?.

(Heathen, Your name fits. That's awful what you said. Of course you're entitled to your opinion but do I need to remind you that thousands of innocent people were murdered?) As a New Yorker, I like the idea of a respectful memorial like the one planned - I do think that site is holy ground, no matter what you think politically those people didn't deserve to die like that. I wish it could be a peaceful park dedicated to the victims but in the real world, that's prime real estate and practically speaking, the commercial buildings are a good idea, the skyline would look great. But I love Freeman's suggestion even better, lol - V Sky
